Mighty Mites Spring 2018

Coaches,

Are you all ready for this? Spring Mighty Mites kicks off next Saturday! Hopefully, you have reviewed your schedule and your roster and communicated with your parents. You've probably reminded them that games are indoors at Portland Futsal on Saturdays only and that the location is new from last year. Also, that they need shin guards and flat shoes. Lastly, there are no practices during Spring.

Reminder for you, in Futsal, all throw-ins are taken as kick-ins. In fact, the PYSA rule has now changed for outdoor for this age group too. Throw-ins will always be kick-ins whether indoor or outdoor. Here is a link for the PYSA coaches brochure for U7 and U8, which highlights this. http://www.portlandyouthsoccer.com/doclib/U7-8_Coach_Parent_Brochure%202018-19.pdf Mighty Mites follows the U7 guidelines of 3v3 for both U6 and U7. Please share this brochure now with your parents as you will want them familiar with these rules as volunteer referees for each game. Also remember to keep your players on one sideline, away from parents. There are bleachers at Portland Futsal that your parents can watch the game.

For those of you that attended the Annual General Meeting, you heard that I've been elected to Vice President for SESC. Jen Cunliffe has agree to take on the Mighty Mites. While we are in transition this Spring, both Jen and I will be running Mighty Mites and we can both be reached at the MightyMites@sesc-pdx.org email.

There were a few of you that asked for a couple more shirts for your incoming players. Although we provided 14 to start in the Fall we realize there are situations where you may need replacements. The orders I received should be ready this week. We can arrange for these to be picked up, or we'll have them at the first game. If for some reason you missed the order window, let us know ASAP and we'll do what we can to get your shirts done as quickly as possible.

As always, don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions. Have a great Spring Season!

Previous Message from February 10:

The groundhog says six more weeks of winter, but it is looking like Spring is getting close! Time for the Mighty Mites to resume. As in past spring seasons, Mighty Mites moves indoors in a Futsal format. We will still partner with Portland Futsal at their new facility which is now located at 3015 SE Berkeley Pl. located at the old Eastmoreland Racquet Club off of Tacoma Ave.

The season will begin April 7th and will run for six games, schedule links are to the left and also available via your team's page on Team Connect. With the change to a larger facility, we will now be able run 2 courts and 2 games for every hour time slot. As a result we will have both U6 and U7 play on Saturdays. Games will be 44 minute games, with 22 minute halves.

If you registered for Fall, you are automatically enrolled for Spring and you will all play on the same teams. A couple reminders for the parents. First, there are no practices in the spring, so it will only be games. Secondly, please stay off the courts at Portland Futsal - there are small bleachers at the ends of the courts for viewing. Finally, please remember that Portland Futsal is indoor and therefore players will not wear cleats. Tennis shoes work just fine and don't forget your shin guards!

Coaches, please hold onto your equipment through the season. We'll provide you drop off instructions before the last game. Please bring your equipment bags with first aid kit to each game along with your guides. These have concussion protocols which you should have at hand. Portland Futsal will supply a Futsal ball for play. No throw ins will be taken as all restarts will start as a kick in.

See you all soon!
