Mighty Mites Fall 2018

Dear SESC Mighty Mites Community:

It's time to start thinking about the upcoming 2018 Mighty Mites Fall Season. Our youngest age group U6 and U7, the Mighty Mites, will begin their season with a jamboree on Saturday, September 8th, at Winterhaven School. Save the Date! Game and Picture times can be found Here.

Your child's coach will receive your team's practice location and time by August 19th, which they will communicate to you.

Coaches Needed

I want to take this opportunity to let you know that there is still a dire need for coaches, especially at U6 and U7 Boys. Team rosters are approaching their maximum because we do not have enough coaches. This reduces your child's playing time. The coaching time commitment is minimal - one practice and one game per week in the fall, and one game per week in the spring - but the rewards are plentiful. We have several resources available to help you on your coaching journey.

Please consider being a coach and send an email to if you would like more information. Or just go ahead and register Here.

Thank you!

Parent Referees

We ask that each team provide one parent volunteer to referee the games. Each parent should become familiar with the 3v3 soccer rules (provided by your coach) and the playing field. The primary concern of the referee is the safety of the players. Although at this age most fouls are unintentional, mistakes should be gently corrected for everyone's safety.

Team Pictures

Team pictures will be taken at the Jamboree at Winterhaven School. Check the Jamboree schedule for time and location.

Regular season games (Sept 15 - Nov 3)

U6 games will be played at Berkeley Park on Saturday mornings, starting at 9, 10 or 11 AM and games will last ~ 50 minutes.

U7 games will be played at Duniway School on Saturday mornings, starting at 9, 10, 11 AM or 12 PM (boys only) and games will last ~ 50 minutes. Due to the likely odd number of teams in the girls and boys divisions this year, there will be some double headers!

SESC Opportunities

Board Positions: There are immediate positions to fill on SESC's board. There are a handful of board members who have served for many years and their kids have "graduated" from SESC. New faces and ideas will keep SESC's board vibrant. Please reply back if you are interested in a position on the board and send an email to

Concussion Awareness

Since January 2014 all coaches, parents and players 12 years and older have been mandated by state legislature to be trained on concussion awareness. You acknowledged that you and your child read the Concussion Fact Sheet when you registered your child. Links to the concussion documents can be found here: under Concussion Awareness. To summarize, the concussed player does not return to full participation without a physician's release. A player suspected to have a concussion, but in fact was not concussed also needs a physician's clearance.

PYSA Emails

Please ignore emails from Portland Youth Soccer Association (PYSA) or emails from, if you should happen to receive any as these are primarily directed towards U8 and above.

Your child's coach will provide your child with a team jersey. Your child will wear their own shorts and socks- any color. You can purchase official SESC shorts and socks from Tursi's soccer store, although this is not necessary. Your child will also need to wear soccer shoes/cleats and shin guards. Please no jewelry of any kind.
